Juan Pablo Valencia Heredia is the Resident Director of the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra and has been developing a career which is characterized by leadership that promotes artistic excellence and inspires passion, connection and enjoyment through music.
He has performed with orchestras in Colombia, Europe and Latin America. These orchestras include the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, the Castilla y León Orchestra of Spain, the Cadaqués Orchestra, the Eafit Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Medellín, the Batuta Metropolitan Orchestra, the Young Philharmonic of Colombia and the Colombo – French Binational Symphony Orchestra. He also participated in the XII edition of the International Conducting Contest of the Cadaqués Orchestra.
Between 2015 and 2017, he played the role of National Symphonic Director in the National Batuta Foundation. Between 2005 and 2015, he worked as a cellist in different chamber and symphonic music projects, highlighting his experience with the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra for a decade where he was the principal cellist from 2010 to 2015.
Colombian born in the city of Medellin in 1986, Juan Pablo Valencia Heredia began his musical studies at age 12 in the Music School Network of Medellin. He made his career as a musician with an emphasis on Violoncello and a master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at Universidad EAFIT from where he was granted various scholarships. Additionally, he studied a postgraduate in interpretation of the Violoncello at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Salamanca (Spain).
